Resilient borders: call for proposals is open

Resilient Borders – Cross-Border Spatial Planning and Crisis Management Pilot Actions is a newly launched initiative of the European Commission for border regions. The objective of Resilient Borders is to enhance cross-border creation of joint plans for resilient border regions.

With financial resources put at disposal and dedicated support, actors in border regions can receive aid to set up joint plans in two key fields: Cross-border Crisis Management and/or Cross-Border Spatial Planning.

Resilient Borders is jointly managed by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT).

The two associations have launched a call for proposals open to public entities and cross-border structures located in border regions of the EU and its neighbouring EFTA countries.

Selected beneficiaries will receive a grant of up to 40,000 € to create a plan that coordinates local actors to face crisis jointly, or to design common governance through cross-border spatial planning.

The call for proposals is open until 30 November 2024 (18:00 CET) and is accessible here or at https://resilientborders.eu/call-for-proposals/

The winning pilot actions will be implemented in 2025 and will represent true innovative approaches for border regions to collaborate on relevant topics which enable a coherent, joint development of the cross-border territory. At the end of the project, 20 cross-border regions will have contributed to improve cross-border governance and increase their joint resilience.

New cross-border data hub

An upcoming Data hub for EU border regions will support decision makers in addressing challenges for cross-border spatial planning, providing the necessary knowledge on domains such as transport, public services, healthcare, cross-border governance, and more. This new, interactive platform will collect harmonised geospatial data on cross-border interactions and robust socioeconomic indicators, boosting the untaped socioeconomic potential of these territories.

The launch of the Data hub is expected before the end of the year. To be updated on the launch of the platform and on future activities, subscribe to the mailing list!

The Data hub is an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and Joint Research Centre (JRC) in the context of the project ‘data and Analyses for CROSS-border regions’ (ACROSS).
