Energy communities are widely recognised as a driving force in the EU’s clean energy transition, empowering citizens, businesses, and local authorities to collaborate on sustainable energy production and management. But what happens when these communities expand their efforts across borders?
Cross-Border Energy Communities (CBECs) take this concept further, uniting regions to enhance energy security, lower costs, and foster regional development. Despite their potential, CBECs face unique challenges, including legal complexities, regulatory differences, and coordination barriers.
The new edition of the ‘Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate’ will discover insights from DG REGIO’s Handbook on Cross-Border Energy Communities, learn about examples of CBECs and their tangigle benefits for EU border regions, and explore strategies to address the challenges of launching these initiatives.
The Border Focal Point Network is delighted to welcome the following speakers:
- Delia Bonsignore, Programme Manager, DG REGIO
- Bernd Schuh, Senior Expert, Spatial Foresight
- Achille Hannoset, Policy and Legal Officer, DG ENER
- [Moderator] Andrew Lansley, Member of the UK House of Lords & LOW Associates Strategic Counsel
